Deakin Law Students’ Society & Clayton Utz Academic Trust
The Deakin Law Students’ Society (DLSS) and Clayton Utz Academic Trust is the DLSS’ means of recognising academic excellence among Deakin law students.
The trust was created by former Geelong Chapter President and Treasure Damon Hauenstein and Ashley Russell in late 2006 to recognise students who have displayed academic excellent in their first year of law. It was then expanded by Burwood Chapter President Katie Elder in 2008 to recognise achievements of the winners of annual the DLSS Mooting Competition in order to promote the skill of
advocacy amongst Deakin law students.
The recipients of the trust are:
• The highest ranking first year law student on the Burwood Campus who is eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place
• The highest ranking first year law student on the Waurn Ponds Campus who is eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place
• The highest ranking first year law student from either the Warrnambool Campus or from Off-Campus who is eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place
• The winners of the DLSS Mallesons Stephen Jaques Senior Moot
• The winners of the DLSS Mallesons Stephen Jaques Junior Moot
• The winners of the DLSS Mallesons Stephen Jaques First Year Moot
Recipients awarded for academic excellence are awarded $500 in vouchers for the university book store, whilst winners of the mooting competition are awarded $100.00 each.
Awards from the trust first commenced in 2008 and have continued to do so annually since. Administered by the School of Law and the Deakin University scholarship division, the trust is awarded annually at the School of Law Prize Night in semester one. |
